Rosemary Deveson

Born Bowsman River, Manitoba, Dec. 28, 1921. Studied ballet in Vancouver, B.C., with June Roper, 1935-1938. Joined Colonel de Basil’s Ballet Russe in February 1938 and toured with the company through 1941, performing in the U.S., Europe and the Antipodes as Natasha Sobinova. Danced leading roles in David Lichine’s “Protee” and “Graduation Ball” and assumed Tamara Toumanova’s role in Balanchine’s “Le Concurrence” at London’s Covent Garden in 1939.
Returned to Vancouver in December 1941 and opened her own school of ballet. Some of her celebrated pupils were Lynn Seymour and Lois Smith.
