Derek Sakakura

Derek Sakakura joined BalletMet in 2002 after dancing at Ballet Austin under Stephen Mills, and with Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, San Francisco Opera Ballet and the Berkshire Ballet. Mr. Sakakura, a California native, trained at Lareen Fender: The Ballet School and on scholarships at San Francisco Ballet School and Houston Ballet Academy. He toured nationally for a year and a half with the Broadway production of The King and I starring Haley Mills before rediscovering his love for ballet. His favorite BalletMet roles include Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Stanton Welch’s Maninyas, and The Man I Love pas de deux.
