David Eck

David Eck grew up in Santa Barbara, California where he started dance training at the age of ten with the Golet Valley Community Center. He has also attended many summer dance programs at such places as Dance Aspen, San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet and Ecole Superieure de Danse de Cannes with Rosella Hightower. When he was sixteen he began studying at the Maria Vegh Ballet Centre. Maria became his mentor and he studied with her for three years, until he attended Houston Ballet Academy. Through his training Claudio Munoz has also been an inspiration. David joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Corps de Ballet in September 2001. During the 2001/2002 season he was featured as ‘Puss in Boots’ in The Sleeping Beauty and he also performed in Giselle, Nutcracker, Mark Godden’s Miroirs and in the Canadian Premiere of Mauricio Wainrot’s Carmina Burana. Last season, Mr. Eck performed the role of ‘Mouse King’ in Nutcracker, the lead in ‘Mazurka’ in Swan Lake as well as reprising his role in The Sleeping Beauty. In addition, he performed in Vesak’s The Ecstasy of Rita Joe. Mr. Eck has since left the RWB. He is now living in California and guesting all over North America.
